BRUSSELS – A Dutchman who last week had his request for political asylum in Belgium turned down has probably returned home it was revealed on Monday.

The 47 year old man had left the asylum centre where he had been staying on hearing his application had been tunred down, the centre’s director said.

The man had probably returned to the Netherlands, the director added.

The Dutchman requested asylum because he did not receive any financial support from the Dutch government and claimed he had a right to such assistance.

The Belgian immigration service gets an average of one asylum request a year from Dutch citizens.
