Drunk driver gets three years

19 February 2007

BRUSSELS – The court in Dinant sentenced the drunk driver who killed 12-year-old Steve Leglise in Walsort on 12 June 2005 to three years in prison today, two of which suspended. The man must also surrender his driver’s license definitively.

Last July the magistrate’s court ruled otherwise in the first decision on the case. At that time it was said that the driver would not have been able to avoid the collision even if he had been sober because the child made a sudden unexpected move.

The man was sentenced to five years in prison, four suspended, at that time, as well as the definitive loss of his license. The court today ruled that the man was guilty of involuntary aggravated manslaughter.
