Conductors want to fine offenders

4 April 2007

BRUSSELS – Railway company NMBS wants train conductors to be given the authority to impose and collect fines, as their colleagues at De Lijn are able to do. Passengers can be fined for not having a ticket or misbehaving.

The NMBS is going to increase the number of preventative checks at stations and hire more Securail security agents.

The railway company is also asking authorities to more actively prosecute passengers who violently attack conductors.
