Colin Powell to attend NATO talks in Brussels

BRUSSELS – US Secretary of State Colin Powell will visit Brussels at the end of March or beginning of April, the State Department in Washington has confirmed.

Powell will be in Brussels to take part in a meeting of NATO foreign ministers that will formally welcome seven former soviet bloc countries into the alliance.

The new NATO members are Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Slovenia.

Before coming to Brussels the US foreign minister will take part in a major conference on the future of Afghanistan, which is to be held in Berlin.
