Child put up for sale for EUR 25,000

23 May 2005

BRUSSELS – A Belgian woman arranged to sell her baby girl twice, according to reports on Monday.

La Derniere Heure and Het Laatste Nieuws said a couple from Limbourg made a deal with a woman to be a surrogate mother for them.

The hopeful father gave his sperm to the woman and it was inseminated in her on June 2004.

The woman agreed to carry the baby in return for EUR 10,000, however, a few months later claimed she wanted to keep the child.

The couple failed in their bid to take the mother to court after the baby was born in February and the mother then allegedly sold the baby to a Dutch couple for EUR 15,000.

According to the reports, the process of adopting the baby girl, called Donna, is now under way.
