BRUSSELS – Belgium is one of nine European countries that managed to bring the child poverty rate down to 10 percent. UNICEF announced this at a press conference on Thursday.
Still Belgium could be doing better in certain areas, according to the Innocenti report from the UN, in which a comparative analysis was made of child welfare in OECD countries.
Belgium came in sixteenth place in terms of healthcare and safety and in ninth place for risky behaviour.
This is the seventh time that UNICEF has published a report on child welfare in the industrialised world. The opinions of children themselves were taken into account for the first time in this year’s report.
Belgium did share first place for education in the UN’s report.
