Brussels braces for hospital strike

26 January 2005

BRUSSELS – Public and private hospitals in Brussels are to strike on Thursday as part of a wider public health demonstration.

The possible impact of the strike is hard to estimate, reports the Belgian press, as it is not clear how many employees will take part in the action.

But hospital staff have promised a minimum service will remain.

Medical workers are protesting about bad working conditions brought on by the daily pressures of the job, reduced rights and shorter training periods.
