Brussels beach exceeds 250,000 visitors

BRUSSELS – The city beach along the Saincteletteplein canal has had a record number of 250,000 visitors in the last two weeks. This is more than double the number of last year’s visitors. Brussel Bad was, above all, a crowd-puller for foreign tourists, said the organisers on Thursday.

At the end of July last year, roughly 100,000 people visited the city beach. So the organisers are delighted with the increase to 250,000 this year, despite the disappointing weather.

The bad weather did not affect the number of bookings for the sports facilities, the organisers assured us. Both the beach volleyball and the soccer pitches are often in use. The frisbee tournaments have also attracted lots of spectators.

The organisers are quite happy with the popularity of the youth activities. About one hundred children per hour have a go at the wall climbing and more than 3,500 people have taken part in the activities based on the harbour theme.

“The massive attendance is also due to the quality of the cultural programme. The various concerts and DJ nights have attracted an audience of 150 to 350 at a time”, according to the organisers.

The city beach will be open until 12 August.
