Britons dredge ammo out of Ieper canal

During the Great War the canal between Ieper (West Flanders) and the River IJzer formed part of the front.

Today shells and other items related to the war are scattered along the bottom of the canal.

In order to allow pleasure craft to navigate the waterway a dredging operation is now underway.

It’s a dangerous enterprise that requires a special procedure.

British bomb disposal divers have been called in to help in the work.
