Police were attending to a different murder in Ixelles when another team was called to investigate an additional murder, equally as gruesome, in the same area.
“The fact that this is a violent crime could not be questioned”, Brussels prosecutors immediately stated. “One of the victim’s ears had been removed and his body showed signs of a stabbing.”
The Brussels police were alerted to the murder on Tuesday morning, and sent a team to the forest. The team discovered the dead body of a man close to the playground, bearing stab and shot wounds.
According to initial observations, the man had been dead for about 24 hours.
Investigators had no trouble identifying the victim, a man known to the police and the public prosecutors.
Jean-Marie Monzibila, 35, from Anderlecht, was condemned to five months imprisonment in September 2008.
He was known for drug use, as well as threatening and rebelling against the police force.
The reasons for his murder remain unknown, and a post-mortem examination will take place imminently.
