BRUSSELS – Belgium is to test anti-drink driving initiative that prevents cars from starting up if their drivers are over the alcohol limit, it was announced on Tuesday.
The new cars, which have been fitted with so-called ‘alcohol locks’ will be tested in September, several Flemish newspapers reported.
The specially equipped cars will be tested by a group of drivers who have already been stopped for drink-driving offences.
If the trial is successful, alcohol locks could eventually be freely available in Belgium.
