BRUSSELS – Belgium comes in 21st out of 124 on the World Economic Forum’s first ever Travel & Tourism Competitiveness index.

This doesn’t seem like too bad a position, but our neighbours ranked a bit higher on the list.

Switzerland and Austria top the list, followed by Germany in third place. Luxembourg comes in ninth, the UK tenth, France 12th and the Netherlands 19th. Belgium scored well because of its “natural and cultural resources.”

The study says that tourism is not a policy priority in Belgium and is not being promoted enough. Belgium also scored poorly in the category of “price competitiveness.”
