Belgium flops at Eurovision

17 May 2004

BRUSSELS – Belgium came an embarrassing second to last in this year’s Eurovision song contest with Flemish singer Xandee managing to garner a paltry seven points.

Xandee was so upset by her score that she failed to turn up to both a post competition press conference and the event’s after-show party.

The singer’s manager, Sergio, told journalists that his protegee “wasn’t feeling great”.

“We should leave her alone. She’s going back to the hotel to rest,” he added.

The singer’s manager then went on to blame the Eurovision voting system for Xandee’s failure.

“Eurovision is a circus. You heard the votes. It’s 12 points for a neighbour here, 12 points for a neighbour there,” Sergio added.

Ukraine won the competition with 280 points.
