BRUSSELS – Belgium’s emergency services are currently drafting plans for dealing with a major outbreak of the SARS virus or similar infectious disease, it was revealed on Wednesday.
Under the new plan, any victims of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), the flu-like disease that caused a worldwide health scare last year, would be placed in quarantine in specially designated hospital wards.
The St Pierre hospital in Brussels is co-ordinating the new anti-SARS plan.
Doctors there will train colleagues to help them recognise the disease.
Belgian Health Minister Rudy Demotte asked for the SARS-response plan to be drawn up.
