Belgians start gambling at 11

15 June 2007

BRUSSELS – Belgian youth start gambling at a very young age. A survey among 2,000 young people between the ages of 10 and 17 indicates that 40 percent had already played games for money at some point.

The average age at which they started playing games of chance was 11. “Since playing for money is strictly prohibited for minors, we did not expect this result,” says Marc Vandercammen of the Information and research centre of the Belgian consumer organisations. The study was carried out in cooperation with the Rodin foundation.
