Belgians on Gaza flotilla are safe: ministry

Five Belgian citizens who took part in a Gaza aid flotilla where nine passengers were killed during an Israeli naval raid are safe and well, a Belgian foreign ministry spokesman said on Tuesday.

“One of them is to leave Israel this morning, the other four are blocked,” the spokesman said.

Isaam Zaatar, a cameraman for Al Jazeera television, is the one heading home, while the spokesman said consul staff were still trying to make contact with four women, named as Fatima El-Mourabiti, Kenza Isnasni, Inge Neefs and Griet Deknopper by the Belga news agency.

Israeli public radio reported that Israel would hold 480 of the activists and expel 48 others.

Forty-five passengers, mostly Turks, are receiving hospital treatment, as well as six Israeli soldiers, according to public radio.
