BRUSSELS – One out of 2,500 drivers caught on cameras in the Ghent area exceeds the speed limit, news agency Belga reported Friday.
Mobility Minister Renaat Lunduyt said he believes that national statistics can be extrapolated from the number.
The new findings appear to contradict an EU wide study on driving habits published earlier this month.
That survey, which was presented to the European Commission, found that while Belgians are among Europe’s most dangerous drivers, they are not as prone too speeding as people from many other EU countries.
