BRUSSELS – The high speed train operator Thalys has introduced a new ticketless system for its trains.
Thalys passengers can now use an electronic chip card that allows them to travel without using a printed ticket, according to the Brussels-based company.
The chip card allows train conductors to check the passenger’s travel data with information stored on Thalys’ booking system.
Thalys customers must order and register the card in advance online at www.thalys.com.
The new card customers no longer have to queue to buy a paper ticket or wait for tickets ordered online to arrive by post.
The card also allows travellers to book a seat by telephone up to ten minutes before departure. Old style paper tickets will still be available.
Thalys’ train connects Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam and Cologne.
