AMSTERDAM — The Dutch municipality of Reusel-De Mierden has lodged an appeal with the Council of State against the decision to block goods transports to and from businesses in Kempen in the Netherlands.

The near-by Belgian town of Arendonk plans to ban heavy vehicles from travelling through it after the summer. Local officials say the transports have been an environmental problem for years.

This will mainly affect Dutch businesses, a spokesperson for Reusel-De Mierden said on Thursday.

If the road closure goes ahead, Dutch trucks will have to make an expensive detour of several kilometres via the A67 motorway.
