Belgian tourist dies after crash in Peru

A Belgian tourist has died of injuries she suffered in a highway accident in southern Peru, bringing to eight the number killed in the head-on collision between a bus and a truck, local media reported Saturday.

Rogianne Gaytant, 66, died at Manuel Nunez Butron regional hospital where she had been in intensive care for three days.

Five Dutch tourists and two Peruvians also were killed in the collision Wednesday on a road in southeastern Peru near the popular tourist destination of Lake Titicaca.

The tour bus involved in the collision was carrying about 40 people bound for Bolivia. In all, 22 Dutch nationals and five Belgians were injured in the crash. Five Dutch tourists were remain hospitalized.
