Belgian supermarkets to sell stamps

BRUSSELS – Stamps will soon be on sale in Belgian supermarkets in a bid to cut down post office queues, it emerged on Thursday.

Delhaize, Fortis Bank and Press Shop will soon stock stamps, as partners in the ‘Pointposte’ project with the post office.

A test phase will take place between November 2004 and February 2005 in parts of Namur and Mechelen.

A number of postal services will be on offer, including the deposit of mail, the distribution of recorded delivery packages, cash payments and the sale of tax stamps.
