Belgian summer too hot for car batteries

Published on 25/08/2009
As a result of the long hot summer, many car batteries have weakened and become faulty, causing extra work for organisations assisting motorists in difficulty.
Batteries have to work harder to cool a car engine in the heat. As a result many batteries overheat and fail.
Maarten Martienko of the Flemish Automobile Association VAB told the VRT that extreme temperatures, whether hot or cold, always cause problems for car batteries.
“The chemical processes in the cars occur more quickly and many batteries become faulty."
