BRUSSELS – The Belgian roads have become much safer over the past three years, according to a study published today by motorists’ association Touring.
Touring says this is partly due to more attention and investments in road infrastructure by the various governments. “As a result, the risk of accidents involving deaths and serious injuries has fallen significantly,” the organisation says.
Touring is a member of EuroRap (European Road Assessment Programme), the programme that coordinates these studies in various countries. EuroRap’s goal is to reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries on the roads by bringing about changes to the infrastructure on dangerous roads.
A total of 2,986 km of regional roads and motorways were tested in Belgium. The area tested does not include provincial roads or the road network in the Brussels region.
