Belgian phone calls ‘getting cheaper’

BRUSSELS – The cost of fixed line telephone calls in Belgium is falling thanks to the arrival of new telecoms companies on the the market, a leading Belgian consumer group said on Monday.

According to a new survery by ‘Test Achats’ phone phone customers have never before been able to shop around for so many cheap prices.

The group comparered 65 different pricing offers for phone calls with the standard rate charged by former state telecoms firm Belgacom and its biggest competitor Telnet.

It found that the most competitive offer was 43 percent cheaper than the two telecoms big hitters.

A detailed breakdown of the survey will be availabe in French on the Test-Achats website until the end of October.
