The Federal Health Ministry warned on Friday that a drug pill had been seized in Namen with a dangerous amount of MDMA. The ministry said using the pill could result in death, newspaper ‘De Tijd’ reported. The Health Ministry was made aware of the danger after an analysis of the tablet was conducted. MDMA is a product that can be used to make the dangerous drug PMA. The tablet is in the shape of a triangle, hast a blue-turquoise colour and the logo Mitsubishi.

More aid for earthquake victims

Foreign Minister Karel de Gucht has donated an extra EUR 1 million to help the victims of the earthquake in Pakistan. It brings the total Belgian aid package to EUR 3,035,000. Survivors have started dying as winter moves in to the disaster-hit area.

Scouts cause Leuven bomb scare

The suspicious package found on Thursday at the Leuven train station was part of scouting game. Scout leaders have contacted police will pay all costs. The station was evacuated for just under an hour after the package was found near the signal house. A worker with rail operator NMBS-SNCB found the package and alerted police. Train traffic was halted as the bomb disposal squad destroyed the package.

Woman, 74, held for ecstasy smuggling

Belgian police seized 37,000 ecstasy pills at Zaventem Airport on Thursday night. The pills were hidden in a suitcase.  The suspected smuggler, a 74-year-old woman, was arrested. The woman confessed that she was to be paid EUR 10,000 for the shipment. The Israeli woman was Russian-speaking and was travelling via Prague to Tel Aviv.

One in five children suffer obesity

One in five Belgian children suffer from obesity, it was revealed on Friday during a conference organised by Liberal VLD MPs Annemie Turtelboom and Miguel Chevalier. The causes of weight problems are known: overeating and a lack of exercise. Re-education was urged in which students should exercise more, such as taking the stairs instead of the lift, walking to school etc.
