Belgian hospital patients ‘underfed’

9 June 2005

BRUSSELS – Between two and six hospital patients in Belgium are not being fed properly, a new study claimed on Thursday.

The claim was made in a report by the Belgian clinical nutrition society (BCNS), released to coincide with the country’s first malnutrition in hospitals awareness day.

The BCNS said that the cost of treating patients suffering from malnutrition currently runs at around EUR 400 million a year, or seven percent of the country’s annual hospital budget.
