Belgian earns just over EUR 13,000

BRUSSELS – The average Belgian had a net taxable income EUR 13,222 in 2006, 4.5 percent more than in 2003.

The increase in average income per resident was strongest in the Walloon region (up 5.5 percent), followed by the Brussels region (up 4.3 percent) and Flanders (up 4 percent). Flemings still had the highest average income (EUR 14,026).

Just as in 2002 and 2003, the richest province was again Flemish Brabant, with average per capita income of EUR 15,732. Walloon Brabant came in second, Antwerp in third. The Brussels Capital Region is the poorest, with average income of EUR 11,309.

The Oost-Vlaanderen municipality of Sint-Martens-Latem was once again the richest municipality with average income of EUR 19,223 per capita, followed by Keerbergen (EUR 18,984) and Lasne (EUR 18,730).
