30 July 2004

BRUSSELS – This weekend will be the busiest of the summer on Europe’s roads, Belgian motoring organisations warned on Friday.

Traffic organisation Touring said because the end of July and the start of August fall on a weekend roads will be choc-a-bloc with holidaymakers either returning home or setting off.

It issued a string of colour-coded warnings about the likely situation throughout the weekend.

Touring said it was best to avoid Saturday and, although Sunday would be the best day to set off on a trip this weekend, traffic would still be dense.

It advised Friday as the best day to head home from a holiday.

Touring has produced a list of roads in Europe to be avoided and will be updating road conditions regularly on its website (www.touring.be), as well as issuing advice on its helpline 0900.10.280.
