Belgian court jails Hells Angels

27 June 2005

AMSTERDAM — A court in the Belgian city of Ghent has jailed two Amsterdam members of the Hells Angels motorbike club for three years for drug smuggling.

The two bikers were also ordered to pay EUR 11,000 fines. A Belgian defendant was also jailed for three years and fined EUR 5,000.

All three were arrested in the east Flemish town Ledeberg last February after a police infiltrator foiled a plot to smuggle 95 kilos of cannabis.

The court rejected claims by lawyers for the Amsterdam men, aged 37 and 39, that the police had violated their rights during the investigation.
