Belgian children go AWOL

2 August 2004

BRUSSELS – A total of 325 children went missing at the weekend as 1.6 million people took to Belgium’s beaches to profit from the summer heatwave.

All of the wandering infants made it safely back to their families.

According to figures from the emergency services found in the Belgian press, 776 children got lost during the month of July.

“This high number of missing children is perhaps a result of irresponsible parenting,” concluded the emergency services.

Measures have been put in place to prevent this type of incident, including signposts and small wristbands for children.
