BASE taps into expat market

BRUSSELS – Mobile phone company BASE has been tapping into the expat market in Belgium, launching a fixed-line tariff package for international mobile phone calls.

The “BASE expat” calls deal will be offering tariffs for international calls from a mobile phone at fixed line tariffs.

The deal is the first of its kind in Europe, with BASE hoping to position itself as the number one provider for expats in Belgium.  Belgium in currently home to some 800,000 non-Belgian residents.

BASE analysed the calling habits of expats living in Belgium before conceptualising the plan which the company says was initially set to target European institution, Nato and international company employees.

The expatriate community in Belgium is the third market segment for which BASE has developed a specific and tailor-made concept.

Other examples are “Ay Yildiz”, which specifically targets the Turkish community in Belgium, and “Youth” for young people.
