BRUSSELS – More than 30 Flemish paediatricians have signed a petition calling for a ban on the use of mobile telephones by children under the age of 16.
The petition is an initiative of an action group that wants to stop the spread of radiation from consumer appliances.
“Mobile phones are not children’s toys. The government allows parents to remain ignorant about the dangers of the device,” says Jan Allein of the action group.
“Scientific studies show that the longer the exposure, the more of a connection can be seen between mobile phone use and a disturbance of natural brain activity in children.”
An increasing number of paediatricians are also starting to hang up posters at their practices warning against the possible damage to children from the use of mobile phones.
