Autumn of 2005 the warmest ever

BRUSSELS — The autumn of 2005 was the warmest autumn on record, Belgian meteorological bureau RMI said on Thursday.

The average temperature in September, October and November amounted to 12.3 degrees Celsius.

Prior to 2005, the warmest autumn on record was in 1982, when an average temperature of 12 degrees was recorded.

The “very exceptional” average temperature came after September recorded an average of 16.6 degrees, September 14.1 and November 6.1 degrees.

The long-term average temperature for autumn is 10.4 degrees, newspaper ‘Het Gazet van Antwerpen’ reported.

In using the words “very exceptional”, the Uccle-based RMI said this describes a weather phenomenon that only occurs every 100 years.

And besides the warmer weather, the autumn of 2005 will also be remembered for its abnormally large number of rainy days.

Despite this, the months of September, October and November were also exceptionally sunny.
