Atomium receives millionth visitor

BRUSSELS – The renovated Atomium expects to welcome its millionth visitor on Thursday 2 August. The attraction’s management announced this on Monday.

The Belgian monument from the Brussels World’s Fair (Expo ’58) recently underwent a makeover which was completed in February 2006. 130 tonnes of steel was used in renovating the model of the unit cell of an iron crystal, magnified 165 billion times.  The renovation project took almost two years and cost EUR 27.5 million.

The management of the monument says the millionth visitor is expected about 11.00 am on Thursday. The visitor will be given a gift and granted free entrance to the Atomium.
