Arrest in kidnapping case from 1991

16 April 2007

BRUSSELS – The investigating magistrate ordered the arrest of a suspect in the case of the disappearance of Nathalie Geijsbregts on Sunday.

The arrest came after the search of a home in Rotselaar.

Ten-year-old Nathalie Geijsbregts disappeared on 26 February 1991 in Leefdaal, near Louvain.  She was on the way to school but never arrived. Several search actions have been undertaken in the years since her disappearance but no trace was ever found.

The 48-year-old man arrested on Sunday worked very near to Nathalie’s school at the time and drove a grey Toyota, matching the description of the vehicle in which the girl was last seen alive.

The arrested on Sunday is suspected of kidnapping the girl, but denies any involvement in the disappearance. The investigating authorities say there is enough evidence to arrest the man. After the search of the home the man admitted to collecting child pornography from the internet.

The investigation continues today.
