This month, the Antwerp International School (AIS) in Ekeren-Antwerp received confirmation of the accreditation from the Council of International Schools (CIS), the organization that inspects international schools worldwide on the quality of their infrastructure, education and study results. The school has positively completed the accreditation process and is therefore accredited for the next ten years.
AIS the only international school in the world to have been accredited five times. The first time that the accreditation occurred was in 1971. Since then, AIS succeeded to achieve this desirable accreditation every ten years.

The accreditation process comprises a self-study of six months by the school, resulting in a report sent to inspection team. After the team goes through this report, they visit the school during one week and review the activities. In the previous occasions, the inspection team consisted of seven experts. The procedure is comprehensive, but the emphasis is on the quality of the teaching infrastructure, the actual teaching and the achieved academic results.
During the ten-year inspections, two experts visit each awarded school after five years.
The confirmation of the current award, that AIS received from Dr. Gerry Percy, Director of Accreditation Services of the Council of International Schools, makes AIS unique, as no other international school in the world has managed to be accredited five times consecutively.
