BRUSSELS – Management at Charleroi airport (BSCA) is asking passengers not to come to the airport on Friday.
All flights have been cancelled because of a strike. BSCA is advising passengers to contact their airlines about reimbursement for tickets.
Because of the strike, Jetair will be operating its flights to and from Liege and Charleroi via Brussels Airport today. Passengers will be brought to and from Brussels by bus. The airport has set up a hotline (016/27.10.06) for passengers to call for more information.
The unions have been blocking the airport since 5 am this morning. The 24 flights – 12 that were scheduled to depart and 12 that were meant to land – have been cancelled. Ryanair notified most of its customers on Thursday.
The unions are protesting the plans from Walloon Transport Minister André Antoine to privatise security at the airports. A meeting was planned for Friday and the strike was scheduled to start from 3 pm. Unions decided to go on strike early however.
The Liege-Bierset airport personnel also went on strike at 8.30 am this morning.
