2 trains collide in Brussels suburb

At 5:50 am this morning a service train collided with a passenger train in Diegem (suburb of Brussels). Officials say the commuter train and the train carrying train service equipment collided when one train mistakenly switched onto the track of the other. Neither train fell over or came off the track during the collision.

Jean-Pierre De Groef, the mayor of Diegem, the suburb where the accident occurred, says four commuters and four train service workers were injured.

Officials are investigating the accident which caused long delays during the morning rush hour in Belgium’s capital. Train traffic between Brussels and Leuven is still experiencing delays. Train services to Brussels International Airport Zaventem is also affected.
