10% of EU citizens register for European ballot

One in ten European Union citizens has registered to vote in the European elections in Belgium. In all some 63,000 EU nationals will be invited to vote for Belgian candidates on 7 June.

EU citizens had until 31 March to register at their local town hall.

EU nationals can only vote in the ballot for the European Parliament and not in the regional elections held on the same day.

After they have registered they are now obliged to vote. They can only vote for Belgian candidates and are not able to vote in their country of origin.

In all 7,752,878 people are registered for the 7 June vote in Belgium.
