AMSTERDAM – Those who violate privacy regulations will be imposed higher fines.
The Data Protection Authority (CBP) said this on Monday to mark European Privacy Day, news broadcaster NOS has reported.
CBP chairman Kohnstamm also indicated that checks for compliance with privacy regulations will be stepped up. Kohnstamm cited the internet, the OV electronic public transport pass, and customer loyalty cards as examples of privacy sensitive information that is being stored. “Citizens are no longer free from being spied on.”
NOS says that 70 percent of Europeans are not sufficiently aware of privacy regulations.
