Police confirm man killed family

23 February 2006

AMSTERDAM — The four family members found dead in their home in Huissen, Gelderland, on Tuesday died at the hand of the father, police said on Wednesday night.

The 38-year-old man killed his wife, 37, daughter, 8, and son, 4, before killing himself.

Since the perpetrator of the crime is dead, there can be no legal case launched against him under Dutch law.

The police technical investigation has been completed, but police have not yet released details of how the killings took place.

However, the man was under psychiatric treatment with the forensic clinic Kairos in Arnhem, supervisory organisation Pompestichting has revealed.

The outpatients clinic treats people with worsening delinquent or violent behaviour, newspaper ‘De Telegraaf’ reported.

The man had undergone an admissions interview and a follow-up appointment, but actual treatment had not yet started.

A regular psychiatrist had referred the man — who had been under treatment for some time — to the Kairos clinic.
