Basiq Air abandons Marseille, Bordeaux flights

Basiq Air, the budget airline of Transavia, will abandon its flights between Amsterdam-Marseille and Amsterdam-Bordeaux from 1 June. Passengers who have booked a flight scheduled after that date will be transferred to other flights from KLM (Marseille) and Air France (Bordeaux). Basiq Air launched both routes in 2003, but passenger levels never reached a desired level.

Internet third most popular media

The Dutch public is increasingly using the internet as a source of news and entertainment, a survey of 1,200 people by Interview NSS has indicated. The internet was the third popular media accounting for 17 percent of time spent on media. Television (39 percent) and radio (37 percent) were ranked first and second respectively. Newspapers and magazines accounted for 9 and 4 percent. An official with online advertising branch association IAB said the internet is becoming increasingly popular. Broadband internet was attributed to the rise in popularity of the internet

Dutch climbers face Everest ascent

Utrecht resident Wilco van Rooijen has reached the Tibetan base camp at the foot of Mt Everest to attempt a climb on the world’s highest mountain. Together with expedition partners Rex Snelders, of Groessen in Gelderland, and Tilburg resident Ron Doorakkers, Van Rooijen will attempt in the next six weeks to reach the 8,850m Everest summit without extra oxygen. If successful, Van Rooijen intends to paraglide off the face of the mountain. An attempt on the summit in 2002 failed.

Beckham’s alleged secret lover ‘a sex addict’

The Dutch woman who allegedly had an affair with British football star David Beckham is bisexual and addicted to sex, it has been claimed. Several former boyfriends of Rebecca Loos also claim she has had affairs with three top tennis players, newspaper De Telegraaf reported. British media claimed this week that Loos and Beckham had a three-month affair from September 2003. Beckham has denied the claims.

Ice cream an erotic stimulant

Ice cream plays an erotic role for a large number of Dutch nationals, research from ice cream manufacturer Ola indicates. The survey found that 97 percent of men find it exciting to watch a woman eat an ice cream, while 76 percent of women found it enticing to watch men do the same.
