URUZGAN – They have been sent to help Dutch soldiers in Uruzgan province locate roadside bombs. All the dogs have been trained to recognise the smell of explosives.
The Dutch Defence Ministry says that while the great majority of roadside bombs are now detected before they explode, the dogs are a welcome addition to the military forces in Uruzgan.
The animals will first be given some time to acclimatise to Camp Holland.
They will also carry out exercises with Australian bloodhounds experienced in bomb detection in the province.
After that, they will go to work for the Dutch Engineer Corps.
