Youth optimistic about 2008

NIJMEGEN – Young people are significantly more positive about the new year than older people. This has emerged from a survey of 1,200 people commissioned by the Wegener newspapers and carried out by Newcom.

61 percent of people aged 18 to 25 think that 2008 will be a better year than the last, and half of those between the ages of 25 and 40 think so. Only 18 percent of the older people between the ages of 65 and 75 are expecting a better year in 2008, according to the survey results announced Wednesday.

The environment is an important concern among the youth: twice as many young people are concerned about the environment compared to other age groups. People between the ages of 25 and 65 are primarily concerned about the fall in purchasing power and growing traffic congestion.
