Weather warning issued as storm picks up

AMSTERDAM — The national weather centre KNMI issued a warning about very strong gusts of wind in the northwest of the Netherlands on Friday.

The storm warning related to the top of Noord Holland province and the Wadden Islands. 

Wind gusts of 100kph were measured in the Wadden Sea region at 1.30pm on Friday.

The stormy weather in the north of the country was expected to last for several hours before easing off by the end of the day, the KNMI said.

Motorists and pedestrians elsewhere in the country also experienced very rough weather, with high winds and some showers.
