AMSTERDAM — Two women have died after apparently being attacked near the red light district in Rotterdam.

One of the women was found dead at the scene and the second died of her injuries in hospital.

The women were found by a port worker early on Thursday morning lying about 50m from each other on the Lekstraat, a street near the Keileweg red light district for streetwalking prostitutes.

Police are treating their deaths as a crime and are working to establish their identity.

Newspaper Rotterdam Dagsblad reported that the police suspected their deaths was connected to the red light district.

In another incident, the body of a woman, 55, who was missing from her home in Grootegast since Sunday, was discovered in a picnic spot in Zeijen in Drenthe. The police suspect she committed suicide.
