Two dead, two injured in A2 collision

20 April 2004

AMSTERDAM — A collision involving three passenger vehicles on the A2 Den Bosch-Utrecht motorway on Tuesday morning resulted in the death of two people. Two others were seriously injured, police said.

The accident occurred at about 10.30am at the Culemborg exit and one of the cars reportedly caught fire. The exact circumstances of the accident are not yet known.

Police sealed off part of the motorway for Utrecht-bound traffic and a traffic jam extended back about 7km to Geldermalsen. Traffic delays were also reported on surrounding motorways, newspaper De Telegraaf reported.

Motorists were later being diverted around the scene of the accident, but police could not confirm how long the detour would remain in place.
