AMSTERDAM — A one-year-old girl survived almost a week living next to the body of her 37-year-old mother who was found dead in the bedroom of their Rotterdam apartment on Tuesday.

Police said on Wednesday that an autopsy revealed that the woman had died of natural causes and approximated that the woman died on Thursday 18 March, news service nu.nl said.

Concerned neighbours who had not seen the woman for some time alerted police, who found the woman’s body in the bedroom of the Houdringeweg apartment on Tuesday afternoon.

The one-year-old child was found still in her bed and was taken to the Sophia Children’s Hospital, also in Rotterdam.

The girl’s family lives in the north of the country and has been informed of the woman’s death.
