Marloes Nijmeijer, the sister of Dutch guerrillerra Tanja Nijmeijer, has called on her sibling to leave the Colombian guerrilla movement FARC.
She made her appeal on the current affairs television programme Nieuwsuur. Marloes Nijmeijer, who is currently in Colombia, urges her sister to “Get out before it’s too late. Get out, so you can do something really constructive in this country.”
Marloes Nijmeijer says her stay in Colombia has given her a better understanding of Tanja’s fight for justice. However, she says she cannot understand why her sister has joined the armed struggle.
She added that Tanja could use her fame to “Make a statement against violence.”
