Rotterdam train commuters face further delays

9 March 2004

AMSTERDAM — Problems on the train line between Rotterdam and Dordrecht expected to stretch into Tuesday evening, rail organisation ProRail has warned. Fewer intercity trains are operating on the route and all local stopping train have been cancelled.

Leaking water caused a short circuit on Tuesday morning in the train tunnel by Barendrecht. This led to the signal failure.

Dutch Rail is using buses to ferry passengers from Dordrecht to Rotterdam. Some intercity trains are still operating but passengers have been warned to take account of longer travelling times as the trains are travelling at reduced speed. The trains are using the track for goods transport for part of the way.
